We were truly impressed by the quality and the diversity of the submissions we received for the Collaborate | Activate Innovation Challenge, but four finalists rose to the top! Congratulations to the finalist teams, each of whom will receive $25,000 and valuable mentorship opportunities to further develop their solutions to improve people’s engagement with their health.
Each team exemplifies the criteria of the challenge, drawing on the collective resources of partnering organization to inform its solution:
21st Century Brain Trust: This concept engages the public in brain health through a self-administered, clinical-grade cognitive testing app to help detect asymptomatic Alzheimer’s disease. This app will collect data with user consent and aggregate it into a HIPAA compliant database.
Partnering Organizations: Geoffrey Beene Gives Back Alzheimer’s Initiative, American Health Assistance Foundation, and USAgainstAlzheimers Network
Flu Near You: This project targets families and heads of households through a patient-centered tool for real-time flu surveillance and promotion of immunization for families and caregivers. Families can connect to data about health in their communities and where to find immunizations in their area.
Partnering Organizations: HealthMap, International Society for Infectious Diseases, International Society for Disease Surveillance, and American Public Health Association, American Public Health Association
Partnering to End Pain: Web-based technology to connect patients with six chronic pain conditions to a registry that will use a standardized assessment in order to develop a comprehensive database for use in clinical research.
Partnering Organizations: CFIDS Association of America, TMJ Association, and National Vulvodynia Association
Registries for All Diseases: Targets patients and their families with rare diseases to join a virtual research network using patient-generated information around rare diseases to accelerate development of clinical trials.
Partnering Organizations: Genetic Alliance, CFIDS Association of America, National Psoriasis Foundation, and Inflammatory Breast Cancer Research Foundation
Thank you to all of the teams who contributed submissions. We hope you will all join us on October 29, 2012, when each of the finalists will present their solutions and implementation plans to a panel of judges at a Finalist Event in Washington, DC as they compete for $300,000.
